International Sand Sculpture Festival the Expo of 3D Sand Art

International Sand Sculpture Festival, also known as (FIESA) is an expo of 3D sand art objects made of sand executed in different place around the world usually including a competition. Traditionally these are mostly sandcastles, but it includes many kinds of arts that you can see in this festival. The sand sculpture is an international modern art style also bringing together sculpture, painting, culture, sports activities, architecture, and enjoyment.

The Sand Sculpture Festival is also largely becoming a center of attraction for tourists. This is because of its environmental awareness, different and unique impact, legitimacy, and participatory feature.

FIESA the International Sand Sculpture Festival is regarded as the largest event of its kind in the world. The festival uses 40,000 tons sand, it covers 15,000 m², and sculptures reach to 12 meters high, reproducing in fantastic feature representation of public, objects, and various scenarios.

This artistic festival is celebrated in many countries around the world. The countries including Australia, Canada, Germany, India, Indonesia, Netherlands, Pakistan, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United States.

International Sand Sculpture Festival in Australia

This international festival held in Frankston, Victoria  every year since 2008. Before this, it held for seven years at Rye, Victoria. Every year the theme of the festival is different. For 2008-2009 the dinosaurs theme is“Dinostory”.

International Sand Sculpture Festival in Canada

Canada also celebrates the international festival annually. Calm Harbour, Lac Beauchamp Park, and Harrison Hot Springs are also the previous hosts of World Sand Sculpture Championship. In 2011 Fort Myers Beach Florida hosted the Solo Division. Next time Siesta Key, Florida is hosting the Doubles Division.

International Sand Sculpture Festival in Germany

Germany also conducts the international sand sculpture festivals. The festival in Berlin 2005 called Sandsation. Sand festivals also held on 6 June – 28 August 2010.

International Sand Sculpture Festival in India

Sand festival in India created by an Indian Sand Artist Sudarshan Patnaik in the memory of Tsunami Disaster’s victims in Puri ended in the formation of Golden Sand Art Institute in 1995. The institute is situated at the seashore of Hotel May Fair Beach Resort in Puri.

On 18 December 2011-28 January 2012 Indonesia’s Sand Sculpture Festival is also outlined as the largest sand festival in Southeast Asia, held in Sentul – Bogor, West Java.

International Sand Sculpture Festival in Kuwait


In Kuwait, the Remal International Sand and Light Sculpture Festival held from January through April. The festival has the largest collection of sand sculptures by international artists’ team. 80 Sculptures from 25 countries, used 28,000 tons of sand, 1,000 dump trucks full at cost of $3million.

To mold the sand it also contains a small amount of clay in it, in enables the artists to design the sculpture easily. The project also covers more than 300,000 square feet or more than 4 soccer fields.

Netherlands also organizes the International Sand Sculpture Festival. Many eye-catching arts have been made in the festival in past years.

International Sand Sculpture Festival in Pakistan

Sand Castle Contest is an annual festival in Karachi at Seaview Beach since 2011. Lets Build On (LBoN) is the festival organizer. “Clean Beach; Clean Karachi” is the theme of Sand Festival and it has also 10 annual events around the beach led by Dr. Zsuzsanna Fajcsak. In 2012 there were 250 – 300 members including kids, families, foreigners and students also. Center of attraction Sculpture was a Mosque designed by Syed Arif Shah, who is a young Pakistani Sand Sculpture expert and can make any design within few minutes.

International Sand Sculpture Festival in Kuwait

FIESA expressed as the largest Sand Art Festival in the world, held in Pera, Algarve, every year since 2003. At the second Sand Castle Building Contest Pakistani Team made amazing Sand Sculptors in this festival.

The Fourteenth edition, there were around Hundred various sand scenes, creatively describing musicians, musical instruments, and cultures worldwide. Each creative sculpted was followed by text to describe the created element, the exhibition area is dedicated to dance, pop and rock, religion, circus or children’s music.

The festival features many activities related to the Sand Art, like workshops, and presentations on the Sand Art, games, video outthrust and contests. For younger visitors, the festival includes a sand pit to let them try their artistic expressions. Also organizing the Live music, circus arts and dance shows on the Sand Art Festival.


Night time the sculpted arts are lit-up to make amazing angles and impish dimensions. Pro Sand Art Company organizes FIESA and also produces many projects in Portugal, Turkey, and Argentina.

International Sand Sculpture Festival in Russia

Russia is organizing the international sand sculpture festivalSince 2001. The event held in St. Petersburg in Peter and Paul Fortress since 2001. At the first festival, there were 14 teams from many countries to participate in the festival. In 2005 its motto was “Animal World”.

The annual Sandskulpteren in Rorschach takes place on Bodensee coast.

There are many beach areas in Taiwan like Fulong, Shalun, Feicui Bay, Qiding, Shanyuan seaside resorts, and Kending. Golden Beach is also considered as the best beach in Taiwan for World Sand Sculpting Association’s sand sculpturing. The festival is also to promote Sand Art in Taiwan. Every year the festival is full of energy and enthusiasm more than the previous year.

In Turkey,  the Antalya International Antalya Sand Sculpture Festival held every year.

International Sand Sculpture Festival in the United Kingdom

Since 2005 the Weston-super-Mare held the Weston-super-Mare Sand Sculpture Festival every year.

International Sand Sculpture Festival in the United States

In the US there many master level sand sculpting competitions. Like Sand Castle Days, in Florida the American Championship on Fort Myers Beach since the late 1980s. The festivals bring sculptors from many countries, hosting 10 – 30 sculptors. Every year in April Savannah College of Art and Design hosts a Sand Arts Festival in the US.

The USA’s Revere Beach

One of the largest sand sculpturing festivals is the Revere Beach’s sand festival in the USA. Every year the artists from around the world also come and compete for one of the largest grand prizes worldwide. The sand sculptors work for 4 days making the masterpieces on the well-known beach with only sand and water. The sand festival features a full program of fireworks, live entertainment, food truck festival, fun rides, and et al. also including Hot Air Balloon Rides this year.

International Sand Sculpture Festival in Denmark

Denmark is organizing the International Sand Sculpture Festival for the last 14 years. Sondervig, Denmark is hosting the grand festival, featuring famous sand-sculpting artists from all over the world. To make a 13ft sand art it takes about 60 hours 12 tons of sand from a local quarry. Each artist has its own section to make his/her sand sculpture. This sand festival opens in May and continues until October with a little bit shorter time in fall months.

World’s Longest Sand Castle

At Virginia Key Beach in Florida 12 sand artists’ team, led by seven-time record holder Ted Siebert are making the world’s longest sand castle. It requires 1,800 tons of sand to complete the sand castle. They are going to break the current record of 41ft 3.6in. The attractive and massive construction, authorized by Turkish Airlines, features memorials from around the world, including the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Istanbul’s landmarks, and the Liberty Statue.

No doubt it is an amazing précised and a huge structure. The sand artists are completing with even hands to make the world’s longest sand castle. According to WPLG, the sand castle will take about three weeks to complete.

The great creation will stay in place at the Virginia Key Beach for at least 3 weeks. To confirm whether the sand castle is record breaker the Guinness World Records’ team is visiting to measure it.

Tribute to Disneyland Paris through International Sand Sculpture Festival


Belgium’s Royal Sand Carvers Society is paying tribute to Disneyland Paris through International Sand Sculpture Festival. Since 1997 Belgium’s Royal Sand Carvers Society is organizing the festival. In 2010 the festival received Guinness World Record for the largest sand festival, featuring more than 150 sand sculptures created by 30 best carvers around the world.

The festival held on 28 June at the beaches coastal town of Blankenberge. This year the organizers transferred it to the Pristine Beaches to make the festival more reachable to visitors. This year’s event is entitled as “Disneyland Paris Sand Magic”. And the fantastic theme is using 8,000 square meters of water and sand highlighting the famous Disneyland interests.

Disneyland Paris Sand Magic will also feature Indiana Jones, Dumbo the Elephant, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Cinderella and also her immoral stepsisters.

In the coming year, the sand festival will be dedicated to Disney Paris’ upcoming movie named “The Good Dinosaurs”.
